Re: Linux installation
the downloaded file is called installhiverise.exe here and the server announces it as application/x-msdownload. however, it's actually a 32bit ELF-executable, so you might just need to change the settings on the server

Re: Linux installation
After klicking on the link ending with ...hiverisedownload.exe?v=linux you should receive a file called "installhiverise.run", which is sent via "application/octet-stream".
I admit that the downloaders .exe name can be irritating for you linux users, but at the end you get the right file.

my browser (opera) recieves the things i stated above. i tested it in firefox, which gives me the .run with correct mime-type. no idea what opera is doing there.
the files are the same, just the extension is different.

Re: Linux installation
On the download page it says "On a 64 Bit Linux (X86_64) you'll need all 32 bit compatibility libraries." What libraries should I have other than ia32-libs?
When I try to play in Ubuntu now the game crashes during load, right when the progress bar is in the middle, and I have to reboot my computer.

Re: Linux installation
If you can start the game and it shows the progressbar, then you have all libraries you need. Beside the base libraries (glibc, ...) Hive Rise needs the libgtk+ in 32 bit and of course the OpenGL driver.
What video card do you have? Did you install the properitery drivers for it? Hive Rise should not be able to crash your computer. If it can, something is wrong with your drivers.
Maybe you can progress future if you start Hive Rise with a "safe config". I.e. use the attached gui.cfg and save it in
Hive Rise will then start with 1024x768 in windowed mode. Please start Hive Rise from a shell (i.e. in a xterm, konsole, ...), so that you can see the logs.

Re: Linux installation
It worked when I started it from the terminal with that .cfg file you posted. When I put the original .cfg back it started working fine in fullscreen as well.
I was using an older NVIDIA driver when I first installed the game earlier in the week, but yesterday I updated to the latest driver and reinstalled and it was still freezing.
Anyway, my problem is solved for some reason, thank you. If you want my logs I can send them to you.
