Hive Rise League Points
A player's rank in the Hive Rise League table is determined on basis of his league points.
Each player starts with 10,000 points.
In each match the participating players are awarded league points. The system for calculating these league points is based on the Elo system which is mainly used in chess.
The procedure is as follows:
Player A plays against Player B. First of all the expected match result (EA) is caluclated:

EA is the expected quality of Player A's victory in the match. It ranges between 0,0 (total defeat) to 1,0 (perfect win).
VA is Player A's league points total before the match. Accordingly VB is Player B's league points total before the match.
The amount of league points Player A receives in the match (PA) is calculated by comparing the actual quality of player A's victory (SA) to the expected quality (EA):

The quality of a victory is caluclated as follows:
Player A scored Ha Highscore points in the match (the same highscore points that are awarded in matches outside the league), Player B scored HB points. Player A won the match. The quality of the victory is calculated by adding 10,000 points to the score of the winner and putting the result in relation to the total of highscore points awarded in the match:

Example:
Player A (10,020 league points) competes against Player B (9,990 league points).

Player A wins the match, scoring 20,000 points. Player B scored only 12,000 points. The quality of the victory is:

So the victory's quality is even higher than expected. The league points Player A receives in the match (PA) are:

Note: In case the result for PA has decimal places, it is rounded.
The league points total of Player A is thus increased by 21 points from 10,020 to 10,041.
Accordingly the league points total of Player B decreases by 21 points from 9,990 to 9,969.

Hive Rise League Rules
- General
- Binding force and
validity of the rules
All the rules stated here have to be complied with by all participants of the Hive Rise League. On registration for the Hive Rise League the player confirms that he has read, understood and accepted each rule. Every participant commits himself to always follow the rules that are currently valid. The rules can be reviewed online on the Hive Rise league web pages. Reviewing the rules regularly is recommended, as the operator may introduce changes to the rules any time, even while a season is running. Major changes are normally announced in the news section of the website. - Conduct
Each player must treat his team mates, opponents and the operators respectfully and mind the netiquette at all times and everywhere: in the lobby, in the game, in the forum etc. Players who violate the netiquette may receive penalties. Severe misconduct may lead to players being excluded from the league. - Timezones
Every player can adjust the timezone settings to match his location in his league profile. The appropriate time will then be displayed when he visits the league web pages. When arranging matches with players from different timezones the time will automatically be converted to their timezone settings and be displayed accordingly on their web pages. - Privacy of
correspondence
Publishing private correspondence with the operators (e-mail, support tickets etc.) is not allowed without permission of the operators.
- Binding force and
validity of the rules
- Joining the Hive Rise
League
To be able to join the Hive Rise League a player must already have registered with Hive Rise with a valid e-mail address. He can then activate league access for this account after logging in on hiverise.com. Joining the league is allowed anytime, even during a running season. - League Operations
- Cheating
Any sort of cheating is forbidden. This includes taking advantage of bugs systematically (“bug using”). Any attempt will be punished. Players who violate this rule may even be excluded from the Hive Rise League. See also “3.6 Protesting against match results”. - League Points
The calculation of League Points, which determine each player's rank in the league table, is based on the ELO system. Every match is evaluated according to this system and the participants receive league points. More information on the calculation can be found in the related FAQ. - Challenges
- Procedure
Every league member can challenge other participants to a match. But only players in the range of -50 to +200 ranks of his own rank may be challenged by a player. The challenger has to suggest the challengee at least one potential date for the match. The challengee will thereupon receive an e-mail notification. He can also review the proposed dates on the “My matches” page. He can accept one of the dates or decline all of them. Ha can also make his own proposals in return. The challenger will in turn be informed about that and so on. If the two players do not arrive at an agreement for 7 days after the initial challenge, the challenge is deleted.
Accepting a challenge is binding and can't be revoked or altered later.
When the players have agreed on a date they meet in the lobby at the date stipulated. There they join the league match using the league button. The match leader (usually the player who first joined the match) can start the match as soon as all the participants have joined. - Failure to comply
with a match date
If a player fails to join the league match at the date stipulated (granting a waiting period of 10 minutes is expected of everyone), the match counts as a perfect win (see the League point info for an explanation) for the present player. But only if he joins the match and waits for the server to automatically close the match after the waiting period is over.
If both parties fail to join the league match until 10 minutes after the date stipulated, the match is closed and is not evaluated. The same applies if both players join the game but fail to start the match in the 10 minutes after the date stipulated. - Leaving a running
league match
If a player leaves a running league match before it is finished, the remaining player is the winner. The match is evaluated accordingly. It it absolutely irrelevant why the game was left (on purpose, network problems, computer crash). - Challenging the
same player multiple times
If a league member challenges another player, he's only allowed to challenge the same player again after waiting for 7 days starting from the initial time of challenge.
- Procedure
- Inactivity
If a player fails to finish a match for 7 days, his status is set to inactive. Inactive players are no longer listed in the table. Inactive players can request re-activation by log on to the league. The Re-activation requires a waiting period of 3 days though. - Vacation mode
Vacation mode can be activated in the league settings. The change takes effect seamlessly. The player is then removed from the ranking and can't be challenged. He can't challenge other players either. Vacation mode can't be deactivated until 7 days have passed. When a player is in vacation mode for more than 25 days, his state changes to inactive. - Uploading
replays
Replays of league matches must be uploaded every time. That's why the upload can't be stopped in the score screen after a league match. The screen can be left only after the upload has finished (in contrast to matches outside the league). Only on the basis of these replays matches can be protested against – see “Protesting against match results”. In case none of the involved players manages to upload a replay (e.g. because of network problems), the match is evaluated without the possibility of protest. So it's in the interest of each player to make sure the replays are uploaded without any problems. If there's reasonable suspicion that a player repeatedly and purposely suppresses the upload of replays, the player may receive penalties. - Protesting
against match results
A player can protest against the result of a match he participated in within 24 hours after the match ended, but only if at least one of the parties involved managed to upload a replay of the match. A match can only be protested against if there's reasonable suspicion that one of the players cheated or exploited bugs systematically. Protest e-mails must be sent to league@hiverise.com. The following information must be given:- date of the match
- names of the players involved
- detailed reason for the protest in correct English or German including references to points in the replay that reveal the cheating. Stating exact points in time (e.g. “3:44 to go”) and, if applicable, attaching an illustrative screenshot is recommended. Please note that the netiquette must be complied with also in protest mails. Violation will be treated as stated in 1.2.
Protesting against matches without cause repeatedly may result in penalties. It is even possible that future protests will be ignored.
